International Day fete finishes week of celebration
African drumming workshops, Bollywood, African and Chinese dance sessions and Japanese karate demonstrations – just a few of the many experiences pupils at Eaton Primary School had during the school’s International Week.
Children across the school participated in a week-long celebration of the diverse local community, undertaking activities to learn more about different cultures and countries. Each class had a focus continent and country, which they studied to discover about its geography, art, food, music and more.
The culmination of the week was the International Day fete, involving a whole school parade, family picnic lunch and performances throughout the day. The fete was hosted by the winner of the first ever Gladiator series, Weininger Irwin, who along with his wife Janice led a mass dance warm up before a carnival-style procession.
Eaton Primary headteacher Kate Estlea said: “We are so excited to have brought together the amazing and diverse community we live in and celebrated the unique elements everyone brings to our school and local area.
“Our pupils were enthusiastic to learn about new countries and cultures, discover new skills and to bring their parents and carers into school for the fete to experience this with them. Thank you to everyone involved in putting on an amazing show!”
